A Calypso Carol - First performance πβͺοΈ
Our final piece πΆπΌπ§πΉ
Utilising the pentatonic scale, as well as our knowledge of Ostinato patterns, we created a 4 bar composition, inspired by the sounds of the river. Using accurate notation, the children followed their piece, heavily influenced by legato melodies at the source of a river, embedding staccato patterns as the piece continued to resemble the rougher meandering as a river flows onwards. ππ§π£βοΈ
Composing πΌπΆ
Year 4 are truly blessed with a musical flare! Using their knowledge of the ‘pentatonic scale’ and ‘ostinato’ patterns the children created their own 4 bar composition, inspired by the ‘sounds of the river. πΌπΆ
Listening and Appraising πΌπΆπ§
Year 4 listened and appraised a number of popular melodies, all in which contain an ‘ostinato’ pattern within them. The children retrieved and recorded key elements in the form of a mind map, including key musical terminology, instruments heard and emotions evoked. Such musical study will aid the children in creating their own ostinato piece influenced by ‘river sounds’. π
