Our School Street
We promote Active Travel with Charity: WOW Living Streets
Start the day off the right way...
We encourage families to ditch the car when possible and walk, hop, skip or cycle to school!
Each day pupils will complete the 'Travel to School' tracker alongside their class ambassadors and if they commit to travelling sustainably once a week for a month, a badge will be awarded!
There is a different badge awarded for each month !
Mascot 'Strider' comes in to school to support our 'Park & Stride' option - a community commute !!
We were awarded a £20k grant for storage through TfGM so we have a safe place to keep our wheels!
Road Safety is part of our curriculum along with bikeability lessons - this helps us to be safe if we travel by bike or scooter!
THE CONSULTATION
This stage took the most time because we needed to review the local area and meet with stakeholders to work together on the initative.
Our first letter to parents from our Executive Headteacher explaining the scheme
The Bury Council worked with us to promote the street!
Bury Council then wrote to our families
We shared a map with options for a 'park & stride' option with new parking bays marked out by Bury Council
The Hygiene Team gave Melrose Avenue a big freshen up and remarked faded lines
Our community came together for the big launch!
Even media teams were interested in the first School Street in the borough!
We were used as a 'Case Study' for Living Streets - a school getting it right!
Our 'Travel Project' is showcased by Eco Schools as an examplar model
TFGM / Bee Network sent a photographer to use our families on their banners📸
5 (more) Minutes of Fame!!
The TFGM commissioned a short film via media company Eight Engines, fronted by Commissioner Sarah Storey, who has been appointed as the new Active Travel Commissioner for Greater Manchester.
Dame Sarah, Great Britain’s most successful Paralympian, has worked as a policy advocate for British Cycling, with a particular focus on promoting road safety and improving access to cycling for women and those with disabilities.
The aim of the video is principally for future member engagement but it will be used wider – to inform / showcase / inspire and engage around active travel.
