National Schools Sports Week

National School Sports Week

Monday 21st June – Friday 25th June 2021

It’s that time of year again where we have a huge focus on sport in recognition of National Schools Sports Week 2021 and in honour of keeping fit, sporty clothes may be worn all week!

Here are some of the exciting things we will be doing to focus on our wellbeing and fitness, whilst having lots of fun!!

Mental Health – On Monday, we will be studying the story ‘Happy’ which is a children’s book of mindfulness.

We will also enjoy a Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness session with Laura from Yoyogis.

On Tuesday, Scoot Fit will be joining us to help us keep fit the fun way whilst developing and improving agility, balance, co-ordination, muscle strength and endurance greatly benefiting any other sporting activity.  All scooters, helmets and ramps are provided.

Sports Journals – Children may record their sporting activities each day, which will support them in being mindful about their health.

Walk to School – Travel to school either by walking, running, scooter, cycling, skateboarding… anything goes as long as you are moving!!

Morning Move It- Each morning, the school day will begin with a chance to show off your groovy moves in class, which will get the blood pumping, raring for the day!

Daily Mile – Our lunch time running track activity will continue each day with all the staff will be joining in the fun!

Sports Day – Euros 2021 – Traditional Races

Wear your team colours (hair spray and face paints welcome!!)

Monday 21st June – Nursery and Reception

Wednesday 23rd June – Phase 1: Year 1, 2, 3 (morning), Phase 2: Year 4,5,6 (afternoon)

We have made the very difficult decision to keep in line with Bury School Games Network and not allow spectators at this year’s event.  We know this is enormously disappointing, but it feels like the right decision in order to safeguard both our children and staff, when infection rates in Bury remain so high.  Thank you for understanding and supporting us.

Pupils will be socially distanced from other year groups to avoid bubble mixing and equipment will be sanitised after each use.

Friday – Sponsored Rave Fit – Local fitness guru ‘Pip Hobbs’ will be on the stage in the centre of the field, blasting out some well-known pop classics, leading a massive, sweaty sponsored fitness session where children will have fun with friends, whilst releasing masses of energy!  Ice lollies will be on hand for the cool down…don’t forget your water bottles and sun cream!  Plenty of endorphins released!!

*PE kit should be worn all week, colour themed for Sports’ Day and anything goes for the Friday Rave!

If you have any suggestions on improvements in our PE curriculum for 2021-2022, please complete the online PE parent voice form and return to Mrs Shaw to review!

All ideas are very welcome and greatly received!!

  • Tallulah Strange described it as a great way to ‘stretch her unused bones’.
