In previous years, NSSW has been a huge success. Our focus last year was on mental health and we used the book 'ONLY ONE YOU' to celebrate all that is wonderfully unique in each and every one of us. Yoga, Mindfulness, Gymnastics field safety, Pound the floor and a Circusology finale-we certainly have had had it all!
Sadly, this year, we can not be together for National School Sports Week and Sports Day, so you’ll be participating from home! And even better, your whole family can join in the fun!
This year, we have teamed up with Sky Sports to run a national campaign which will aim to unite the country - families, schools, sport and businesses - in a celebration of the power of sport to bring people together, even during isolation.
The UK-wide campaign will challenge people to take on their families, friends and neighbours in virtual sporting challenges – helping them to connect in an unprecedented period of school closures and social distancing.
It will build on the Youth Sport Trust’s #StayHomeStayActive campaign which has been supporting schools, parents and young people with daily free resources to get young people moving and enjoying the PE curriculum while at home.
Attached are activities you can complete at home if you want to make your own active challenges; they all have an emphasis on togetherness, inclusivity and wellbeing. There are lots of ideas for things you can do within the home.
Challenge 1: Wacky Races. Set up and obstacle course and challenge your friends/family. Get creative with your obstacles and have some fun!
Challenge 2: Wellbeing walk-keep the distance! 2k, 5k or 10k?
Challenge 3: Egg & Spoons Race; using a spoon of your choice, balance an object on the end. It could be rolled up socks or even a real egg.
Challenge 4: Can you make outside hurdles or high jump?
If you post on twitter, make sure you tag us in @GA_Bury, @youthsporttrust and #NSSWtogether.
This week would normally be when we would have Sports Day. We’ve uploaded a Virtual Competition where you can still go for Gold, Silver or Bronze! Good luck squad!
